The story begins in October 1963, in London. My first job was with BT working on telex (anyone remember that?) before moving to Cambridge in 1990 to join Acorn, which then became Element 14. I changed jobs in June 1999, and now work for iMagicTV. During 2003 iMagicTV were bought by, and are now a part of, Alcatel. During 2004 I moved from Cambridge to Maidenhead, still working with Alcatel as a Project Manager but shifting divisions within the new organisation formed by the acquisitions of iMagicTV and Thirdspace (whose offices were in Maidenhead). 1990 was my attempt to have a nervous breakdown in one year - new home, new car, new job, new city and new partner. The marriage ended in divorce in 1994, but everything else is still holding together. 2004 represented my second attempt with moving home - that said it went fairly smoothly and eventually I'll be putting some Maidenhead pictures here too, though it's hard to match Cambridge in terms of history. |

| I'm a firm believer in keeping music live, and my own tastes lean heavily towards Celtic tradition. Amongst my favourite bands are Rock, Salt And Nails, Oysterband and Capercaillie . | |
| I spend way too much time in front of computers, both at work and at home, but when I'm not at a keyboard I'm typically reading or watching videos/DVDs. My tastes in both are eclectic, and too diverse to go into here. | |
| All these photos were taken around Cambridge with a digital camera - they help to explain some of the charm of the city (and yes, it is a city despite its small size). Now that I'm in Maidenhead expect to see some new pictures once I get settled enough to spend some time wandering with camera in hand. | |
| This is the Queens College bridge, also known by many as the Mathematical Bridge thanks to its strongly geometric design. There is a popular myth that when first built it was not bolted together, relying solely on the structure for rigidity, and the bolts were added after some repairs. However, this is quite definitely a myth. | |
| This site, and my various other sites, live on a rented dedicated
server. I found some years ago that the things I want to do with email routing,
spam filtering, and web servers needed a very specialist hosting company that
was able to treat every customer individually. I spent some time with such a
company (the now defunct Oak Tree Internet), before realising that I'd reached
the limits of their capabilities. That's when I took the plunge and started
renting a server in its entirety. This gives me the versatility I need in my own connectivity, and also means that I have additional space and bandwidth available to provide hosting for other people too. I already host several sites and domains for commercial operations and voluntary groups. If you are looking for a web host that won't treat you like a number on an invoice send me an email and let's talk over what you're looking for. As well as disk space and bandwidth I can also offer web site design and general advice too. Email me on webhost at chorazin dot org dot uk. |

Want to talk ? Send me mail at alanweb at chorazin dot org dot uk. Spam/UCE (Unsolicited Commercial Email) deleted unread or filtered out before it even reaches me. If you get through the automated filtering I'll be delighted to complain to your ISP about being sent spam.
